Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’ll probably know that Prince Harry married Meghan Markle last Saturday in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. An exciting event like that was THE perfect excuse for a party and after eagerly checking the weather forecast, it had to be our first BBQ of the year! Anyone who knows us would definitely back me up when I say that my family are soo ‘extra’ with entertaining – I mean what’s the point in having a theme if you don’t go to town with it?! In true Coward style, bunting, royal masks, and even themed rice paper cupcake toppers were purchased… Not to mention the amount of old bunting, flags and tiaras that were dusted off from the loft.
After being glued to the TV doing a bit of celeb guest spotting and watching the ceremony (how naturally flawless did Meghan look by the way?) it was time to eat, drink and PARTY. It’s safe to say that my healthy eating went out the window completely with the amount of delicious food sat there waiting to be devoured, and I don’t think the countless magnums of Prosecco we got through helped either. I still can’t believe how lucky we were with the weather though, it was such a gorgeous day and everyone was in the happiest of spirits. It was the perfect setting for chatting, laughing and drinking with our loved ones. A mix of sunshine and family time is obviously good for the soul!
As the sun started to set and the air cooled, my Spotify playlist got turned off, the record player got switched on and my Dad and Uncle were in their element blasting out their old favourite songs. For a minute I wasn’t sure if we were in Peterborough or Ibiza! It was a fab end to a fun day, and I think everyone enjoyed it as much as we did. I definitely think that spending quality time with all the family is a key factor to living a happy life – especially if they’re as crazy and loveable as mine. Besides, who said you needed a Royal invitation to celebrate and party in style?!
