As I’m writing this it’s just hit me that I’ve only got 2 days left at work until me and Harry go on our holiday to Turkey, so I think I’m allowed to start getting excited now! It feels like ages since I last went on holiday and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to being able to drink my first cocktail at 11am, and not having to think about work for 10 whole days.
Along with all the excitement however comes the only down side to going away – packing. Although I haven’t started actually putting things into my suitcase yet, my plan for tonight is to start gathering things into little piles; clothes and shoes, toiletries, makeup and brushes etc., just so I don’t feel too stressed when it comes to packing for real.
One thing that I have managed to get organised with however is my hand luggage – so I thought I’d detail which items have been chosen and packed ready for take-off.
The important documents
Passport – The most obvious item on the list, I won’t be going anywhere without that! Last year I purchased this pretty passport cover that I’m still loving this year. It just makes it look so much cuter and it’s a lot easier to know which is mine!
Photocopy of passport for days out – If you’re holidaying in Turkey it’s recommended that you take your passport out with you if you’re out and about, just in case anyone asks. For me, the thought of losing it while taking it out with me each day is horrible – so a handy tip is to photocopy the main page inside and take that out instead.
Flight information – Although a boarding pass may hold the same information, I always like to take with me a print out of my flight information. Knowing I have the flight number, departure time and seat numbers to hand whenever I need them makes me feel a lot more at ease.
E-Visa – To get into Turkey you need to show an approved E-Visa when going through passport control. They only cost around £15 and they detail all your personal information.
Travel insurance certificate – I get free UK and European travel insurance through my bank and luckily for me, Turkey is included in the list of countries that are covered by this policy. I like to have my insurance certificate on me when I’m abroad – just in case!
Boarding pass – I don’t actually have this just yet (as I’m only able to check in for my flight 24 hours before hand) but this will obviously be going in the bag when I finally get it.
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Cologne – My favourite holiday perfume definitely had to be packed, and as I can never trust my perfumes going in the main suitcase, it had to be hand luggage. The light floral scent of this Jo Malone fragrance is perfect for being abroad and it always makes me laugh that whenever I wear it Harry will say ‘you smell like holiday’!
Clarins Ultra Matte Rebalancing Lotion – This moisturiser which is formulated for oily skin is my current favourite day cream, as it keeps your skin hydrated but doesn’t leave a shine. My flight is around 4 hours or so, so spending all that time with dry cabin air really won’t be very nice on my skin. I absolutely hate travelling with makeup on, I actually can’t think of anything worse, so I’ll happily be topping up on moisturiser when I feel my skin needs it.
Soap and Glory Hand Food – Similar to the point above, I love my skin to feel pampered and moisturised on a flight. Hand Food is my all-time favourite hand cream – honestly no other cream I’ve tried has ever come close, so this one definitely had to go in.
Nivea Original Care Lip Balm – This is actually my bedside lip balm that I put on religiously every night. Although it doesn’t have the most exciting taste, the moisture on your lips lasts for hours. I’ve now had to replace my bedside balm with a lesser favoured one for the last few nights at home, just because I reallyyy don’t want to risk forgetting this baby and being away without it!
The glasses and bikini
Sunglasses X3 – Ok so I love sunglasses. The wider variety the better – I can never understand how people are happy with just one pair! For me they are a main accessory on holiday and I love being able to swap and change to a pair that suits my outfit the best. They all go in my hand luggage as I’d be so sad if any got squashed in my main case.
Normal glasses – For anyone that doesn’t know, I wear glasses for long distance. So I mainly need them when driving, watching TV and working. Of course these have to come with me, as what’s the point in choosing a window seat on the plane if I can’t even see the view properly?!
Turkish Lira – Well I think I’d be pretty stuck without any money to spend at the airport or when I get there.
Bikini – Some people may think this is a bit of an odd thing to put in hand luggage, but I always like to pop a bikini set in there just in case my main luggage gets completely lost and takes forever to sort out – I can still go for a swim! This is most definitely OTT organisation at its best, and I always have my mum to thank for that.
Phone and earphones – My phone is on me probably 99% of the time, so of course will be with me on the flight. If I’m not on a long haul flight and don’t have films to keep me entertained, most of my time will be spent listening to music – so earphones are most definitely in the bag.
Phone charger – I always ensure my phone charger is in my hand luggage and on me the whole time while flying, rather than in my suitcase. Can’t risk being parted with that!
Pack of cards – Something me and Harry love doing together during a flight is playing a few different games of cards. It passes the time nicely (especially when I beat him)!
Scrunchie – For when my long hair gets that annoying that I want to rip it out, a scrunchie is always handy. It’s especially great when the place you’re flying out to is super hot so hair just needs to be out the way.
Snacks – I’ve not actually bought these just yet, as I’m not sure what I’m going to want to take on the plane with me. But one thing’s for sure – you can’t be on a flight without a good supply of crisps and chocolate (and prosecco if you’re me)!
