I’ve been asked many times now why I decided to start ashlieloves.co.uk. I thought I’d save myself answering the same question for the hundredth time, and write it up in a blog post instead where I can go into a bit more detail. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who are thinking of, or are wanting to start up a blog of their own, but aren’t 100% sure whether it’s for them or if it’s something they will actually enjoy doing. Hopefully after reading the reasons why I created Ashlie Loves, more people will just go for it and create their own space on the internet to share their thoughts and experiences – especially if it’s lifestyle and beauty based like mine!
My passion for English
English was always my ‘core’ subject of choice, from my younger school years all the way up to my A Levels. I loved it, and until recently I didn’t realise just how much I enjoy writing, or even how good I actually am at writing – or maybe I’ve just forgotten since leaving the classroom. It’s impossible to write that sentence without sounding utterly big headed, which I’m really not, but if you’ve also found your talent and passion in life then you will know exactly what I mean. For those of you who don’t know, my full time job is in payroll, which as you can probably guess is pretty much the opposite of a job that uses my skills in English everyday. If you know me from school, and me being someone who never took a liking to maths, I bet you’re surprised that I’ve ended up in payroll! I think it’s taken working in such a different job to realise how much I really do miss being creative with words, and having this blog allows me to get back into what I enjoy doing in any spare time I have.
My love for makeup, outfits and more
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, then you will probably be aware of my absolute love for all things beauty, fashion, accessories, bags etc. Going shopping and buying new items and products always has and always will make me happy. Retail therapy really is a thing! It’s great having somewhere I’m able to express my love for new purchases or outfits and staple pieces that I’m loving to wear or use at the moment. I love it when other bloggers share their bargain buys with the online world, it give me some great inspo – even though my purse probably doesn’t see that as such a good thing! There are far too many people out there on social media (Instagram is a main example of where I see this the most) who for some reason refuse to give away where they bought any of their clothes/makeup/accessories from. Personally I really don’t get these people, as the way I see it is if someone’s asking for info on what you’re wearing surely it’s because they like it, and therefore it’s a compliment? I know if I get my hands on a great item of clothing or beauty product, I immediately want all my friends, family and anyone who wants to read to know exactly where it’s from, when I got it, and how much it was!
Wanting somewhere other than social media to share my experiences
Before Ashlie Loves existed, I was sharing photos on my social media feeds of holidays, days out and things that I experienced that I wanted to share with friends and family. With Instagram and Facebook for example you can share a few photos and a little description or update, but having a whole blog to yourself on the internet means you can go into so much more detail and put up a lot more lovely photos to share with everyone. For me I also see it as a diary that I can look back on whenever I want, and I’ll always have the memories of certain days or trips that I can reminisce on. Me and Harry are often out on adventures, weekends away or holidays so this is the best way for me to be able to capture all those moments instead of just bombarding all my followers or friends on my social media channels (although let’s be honest, that does still happen, just a lot less often than if I didn’t have my blog!)
It’s a hobby that I enjoy
The main and final reason why I started writing Ashlie Loves is just because it’s fun. I felt like I needed to do something with my time when I’m not working or seeing family and friends. Something that would stop me from watching so much Netflix… it was starting to get unhealthy the amount of TV shows and films I’d binge watch in the evenings! Don’t get me wrong, me and Harry still love to watch a film or two on the weekends when we’re having a lazy Sunday or a cozy Saturday night in. However having something that I can work on and feel proud of each time I finish and publish a new post gives me a great feeling of accomplishment. I think it’s a really good thing to do for yourself, and if creating and working hard on your own blog isn’t your thing, then find something else that will give you the same feeling of happiness and achievement. It’s a wonderful feeling!
So there you have it, why Ashlie Loves was born! Planning, writing, and taking photos for this blog is one of my favourite things to do, I just enjoy it so much and have such a passion for wanting to improve and develop it all the time. I’ve also felt so much more inspired and creative since my blog turned from a little idea I had months ago into reality. Hopefully this post will inspire some of you to start up a blog of your own if you’ve been unsure about it. You may love it as much as me, you may not, but if you never try you’ll never know.
